CTG 1-21, Southern Gaels 1-14.

We travelled to Tubberclair on Thursday evening to face Southern Gaels in Round 2 of the Intermediate Championship, looking to bounce back from our opening-round defeat. Southern Gaels made the brighter start with the opening two points, but we responded well and soon found our rhythm. Adam Cassidy’s first-half goal gave us a platform, while points from Adam Cassidy, Sean Clarke, Rory Quinn, Killian Jackson, Aaron Jackson, Ciaran O’Brien and Eoin Carey helped us build a deserved 1-13 to 0-6 lead at the break.

We started the second half well with early scores from Ciaran O’Brien, Sean Clarke and Aaron Jackson to extend our advantage. Southern Gaels battled back with a number of points, but we stayed in control as Rory Quinn and Adam Cassidy converted important frees, while Adam Cassidy and Conal Fagan also added points from play. A late Southern Gaels goal proved only a consolation as we recorded a deserved 1-21 to 1-14 victory and picked up our first championship points of the campaign. We face Raharney in Round 3 in two weeks time.
